KMLF Event Report: August 2006: Peter Aughton – Isolating the HR Factors that Drive Performance

Our August KMLF event featured Peter Aughton talking about the results from his international research on the factors that improve performance in organisations.  His wide ranging talk included how changes in the economy are affecting organisational strategy and the rise of intangibles in response.  The bulk of the presentation focused on how to measure intangibles, the problems with current models and the need for a more systems approach.  Peter gave a great insight into how three organisations are using these HR intangibles approaches to redesign their organisations and improve their performance.

His slides include supporting material that was requested by participants on the evening.

Thanks Peter!

KMLF Event: August 2006: Peter Aughton – Isolating the HR Factors that Drive Performance

This month’s event features Peter Aughton from AMERIN. Peter has been coming to KMLF events for many years. AMERIN focuses on working with companies and business leaders in the areas of managing and maximising their intangible investments to establish sustainable and competitive business environments.

The talk will report on their research on the causal path analysis of employee responses to an ‘Open Systems’ survey questionnaire. The outcomes indicate the state of an organisation’s health, innovativeness and and ability to provide the conditions for satisfying productive work and learning.

The questionnaire focuses on the health of the organisation in terms of three outcomes, namely; employee engagement or motivation, productivity and innovation. As knowledge and innovation are valuable strategic resources that help achieve organisational goals, the questionnaire measures many aspects of these factors too.

AMERIN has been appointed as an official business partner of a Canadian research project for the promotion of mental health through structural and cultural workplace change. This project comprises an international research team of eminent social scientists, psychologists, medicos, and organizational development and system theory practitioners and academics. AMERIN is the only non-Canadian business partner invited to join this influential project team.In summary, two diagnostics were conducted for the Canadians as part of the project preparation and planning phase: one for an Australian manufacturer and the other for a large North American Government agency. From these diagnostics , both organizations were advised which particular intangible drivers would maximise their performance.
