Social Software Use Case Wiki – As Promised!

Hi Everyone,

It was great to attend my first KMLF on Thursday night. Shawn touched on Network Collaboration in his presentation, which then got everyone chatting about online collaboration tools and their potential and real value within organisations. I think everyone was in absolute agreement that an ongoing issue within organisations was the focus on getting a ‘tool’ rather than thinking of what their business issues or objectives where and what tools and methods could be used to solve them.

One resource which I mentioned may be of interest is the Headshift Casefiles Wiki. It has around 100 case studies of successful enterprise social tool projects from all over the world (and growing) as well their use cases. The use case is basically the business issue they were trying to resolve or behaviour they tried to foster. This is an open resource so if you have a project you have been involved in or come across which may be relevant, you can contribute.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Look forward to seeing you next month.

Last night’s meeting on collaboration

Last night I gave a talk on Building a collaborative workplace. I think we had about 20 people attend. I probably felt like more people because of the room mix up where we ended up with a tiny room and some people had to stand.

After the talk and discussion eight of us popped down to Degraves Street for dinner. It was terrific meeting Pam, Michael and Kate for the first time.

Any comments about the talk are most welcomed.

June meeting is on the 26th June

A few venue issues have slowed us down but we have confirmed a venue and time for the next KMLF meeting to be at the City Library on the 26th June.

253 Flinders Lane
Melbourne 3000
ph: 03 9658 9500

Time: 5.45-7.45pm then dinner or drinks afterwards for anyone interested.

I will give a talk based on our paper “Building a Collaborative Workplace.”

I look forward to catching up.

LearnX Asia Pacific in Melbourne 12-13 June

While this conference is aimed at training and elearning professionals, there will be many opportunities to learn about learning beyond training and web-based tuition. Robyn Ciuro and I are presenting on a staff induction project for Aboriginal people in a government department and how we used business narrative techniques.

Getting KMLF active again

It’s time we get the KMLF active again. Keith De La Rue and I are starting to organise a set of events for the rest of 2008. We are planning to normally schedule the KMLF meetings on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 5:45 pm.

We are still looking around for a good venue in the city. Our criteria is, low cost or free, close to good places to have dinner and a few drinks, can hold up to 50 people. Please add your suggestions as comments.

We are aiming to hold our next meeting on Wednesday 25th June where I’ll kick off the session with a presentation on building a collaborative workplace (based on this paper). We are currently looking for speakers so please contact myself or Keith with suggestions.

The KMLF co-ordination group is meeting for lunch on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is on the 17th June. Let me know if you would like to join us and get involved in running the KMLF.
